Portland’s Lewis & Clark College, home of the leading U.S. environmental law school, has become the first private college to achieve Salmon-Safe certification. The award was the culmination of a two-year process with the college in further evolving the campus towards Salmon-Safe certification.

Located on steep slopes atop Portland’s Palatine Hill and adjacent to Tryon Creek State Park, Lewis & Clark was singled out by our expert assessment team as one of the most exceptional campuses we’ve evaluated to date with respect to managing 137-acres to conserve habitat and protect downstream water quality. Examples of environmental innovation at Lewis & Clark include the implementation of organic landscape management practices on campus and large-scale habitat restoration efforts in collaboration with campus neighbors.

Salmon-Safe certification and the ongoing implementation of project related restoration and water quality protection activity are led by Lewis & Clark’s Sustainability Council.
